Assessment Policy

The School follows age appropriate assessment policies. The evaluation procedure has been carefully designed keeping in view the learner’s ability to receive and respond.


(A) Classes Nursery to II

The School follows a two-term semester assessment programme. A formal progress report is given after each term reflecting the regular evaluation of the child's all-round progress during the term. There is regular assessment of a child's performance in each subject and extensive evaluation is carried out by the teachers through monthly assignments and weekly observation in the form of follow-up tests.


(B) Classes III to V

At Bal Bhavan we develop knowledge skills and learning attitude amongst our children by creating learning environment and opportunities for them in the school itself so they can explore, investigate, analyse, synthesis, evaluate and create. Hence, Bal Bhavan has been having continuous and comprehensive evaluation pattern for classes III to V.

1. Internal Assessment

Under Continuous and Comprehensive Assessment Internal Assessment is done throughout the year ensuring that the regular class assignments, class discussions, Dictations, worksheets, creative writing tasks, mental maths, activities etc. would be graded for facilitating conceptual learning making it more meaningful and long lasting. Also it would help the teachers to identify the areas where extra attention needs to be paid.

2. Written Assesment

The academic session is divided in 2 parts: -

Term - II October to March
Term-I (40%) - Weightage of marks according to the term is given below

(C) Classes VI to VIII

1. Scholastic Areas (VI to VIII)

It is mandatory to obtain 40% marks to qualify in the examination.

  • Student must obtain the minimum qualifying marks in all the subjects to get promoted to the next class.
  • In Annual Examination following syllabus will be covered from Term I:
    1. Class VI- 10%
    2. Class VII- 20%
    3. Class VIII- 30%
The Final Result of the candidate is calculated as

2. Co Scholastic Areas (Classes VI to VIII)

The activities will be graded on a 5-point grading scale (A to D) and will have no descriptive indicators. No up scaling of grades will be done.

(F) Class XI

  • Maximum marks for different subjects will be as per the guidelines provided by CBSE in both theory and practical exams.
  • Practical & Theory exams will be conducted in Half Yearly and Final Exams while in Unit Test-1 and Unit Test-2 and Pre-Final Exams, only theory exam will be conducted.
  • The pass percentage in each subject in each exam is 40%.
  • Also, overall pass percentage is 40% which will be taken as cumulative of First Term and Annual Exam.
  • It is mandatory to pass in Practical and theory separately.
  • No retest shall be conducted in case student remains absent during Exams/U. T’s/Practical’s.

(G) Class XII

  • It is compulsory for all the students to appear for all the exams conducted in School.
  • Maximum marks for different subjects will be as per the guidelines provided by CBSE in both theory & practical exams.
  • There will be practical exams in Mid-Term & Mock Practical exams before Pre-Board exam.
  • No Retest will be conducted if the student remains absent in any examination.

  • Performance Enhancement Classes will be conducted for academically weak students on all Saturdays or as and when intimated by school.
  • Passing Criteria for Classes IX to XII will be as per CBSE & Directorate of Education norms

Note -

  • Each student studying in the school Class IX to XII has to compulsorily choose one activity in each from Strand –I, II, III respectively while for the contents of Strand IV the school will be organising Health Check-up of the students for which a separate consent form will be provided to the students.
  • We request the parent to guide children to select the activities in Strand I, II, III as per their choice / ability / strength.
  • In the implementation of the same the school expects the cooperation from the student and the parents as some of the activities might require after school involvement.
  • The school wishes that the HPE model as purposed by CBSE be taken up positively by each and every one irrespective of their limitation.

The teachers in the school nowhere intend to cause stress or incur extra burden to any student or their parent. Rather it is an attempt wherein we target to achieve the goals as laid down by CBSE in its HPE Manual.
